What Is the UKM-401?
The OREI UKM-401 is a 4K@60Hz 4-input HDMI KVM switch. It allows up to four computers to share one display, keyboard, and mouse.
The UKM-401 is useful for users who want to control multiple computers from one workstation without using separate monitors, keyboards, and mice for each system.
The UKM-401 features 4 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. It supports video resolutions up to 4K@60Hz, with HDMI 2.0, HDR, YUV 4:4:4, HDCP 2.2 compatibility, and 18Gbps transmission bandwidth. It also supports USB 2.0 KVM, EDID passthrough, auto downscaling, RS-232 control, IR remote control, and front-panel button control.
IMPORTANT — Each Computer Needs HDMI and USB Connected
For full KVM function, each computer needs both:
- HDMI connection for video
- USB Type-B connection for keyboard and mouse control
If HDMI is connected but the matching USB cable is not connected, you may get video on the display, but the keyboard and mouse will not control that computer.
For example:
- Computer 1 HDMI goes to HDMI Input 1
- Computer 1’s USB port goes to the matching USB Type-B port for Input 1
Repeat this for each connected computer.
If your computer does not have a USB Type-B port, you can use a USB-A to USB-B cable. Four USB-A to USB-B cables are included in the package.
IMPORTANT — UKM-401 Supports One Display Only
The UKM-401 has one HDMI output.
This means it supports one TV, monitor, or projector.
It does not support a dual-monitor setup. If a customer wants to control four computers with two monitors, this product will not provide that setup.
IMPORTANT — USB Ports Are USB 2.0
The UKM-401 supports USB 2.0 sharing.
This is suitable for devices such as:
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- USB flash drive
- Basic USB accessories
It is not designed as a high-speed USB 3.0 hub. If you need high-speed USB 3.0 device sharing for external SSDs, webcams, or fast storage, use the UKM-401MV.
IMPORTANT — 4K@60Hz Requires Compatible HDMI Equipment
To use 4K@60Hz, every part of the setup must support HDMI 2.0 and 4K@60Hz.
This includes:
- The HDMI source computer/device
- The HDMI cable
- The TV, monitor, or projector
It is recommended to use Premium High-Speed HDMI 2.0 cables under 30 feet.

Understanding KVM Function
KVM means keyboard, video, and mouse.
The UKM-401 allows one keyboard, mouse, and HDMI display to be shared between four connected computers.
When you switch to a different input, the display and USB keyboard/mouse control switch to that selected computer.
For KVM to work correctly, each computer must be connected with both HDMI and USB.
Understanding RS-232 Control
The UKM-401 supports RS-232 control for professional AV and control system integration.
RS-232 settings listed in the manual include:
| Setting | Value |
| Baud Rate | 9600 |
| Data Bits | 8 |
| Stop Bit | 1 |
| Parity | None |
RS-232 can be used to switch HDMI inputs, reset the device, restore factory settings, check status, and change baud rate.
Common RS-232 command functions include:
| Command Function | Description |
| PS1X | Select HDMI Input 1 |
| PS2X | Select HDMI Input 2 |
| PS3X | Select HDMI Input 3 |
| PS4X | Select HDMI Input 4 |
| Reset | Restart the device |
| Recover | Restore factory setting |
| Status | Query status information |
| Baud XX | Set baud rate value |
Understanding EDID Passthrough and Auto Downscaling
The UKM-401 supports EDID passthrough and auto downscaling.
EDID passthrough helps the connected source detect the display’s supported resolution and audio capabilities.
Auto downscaling helps when the source and display do not support the same resolution. For example, if a source outputs a higher resolution than the display can handle, the switch may help downscale the signal depending on the setup.
For best results, set the source device resolution to a format supported by the connected display.
