What Is the UKM-201-2C?

The OREI UKM-201-2C is an 8K@60Hz 2-port dual-display HDMI KVM switch with audio and USB 3.0 support. It allows you to control two computers using one keyboard, one mouse, shared USB peripherals, and two external HDMI displays.

IMPORTANT — UKM-201-2C Is a Dual-Display KVM Switch

The UKM-201-2C is designed for two computers and two displays.

Each computer can connect to the KVM using two HDMI outputs, allowing both connected displays to be used when the computer supports dual HDMI output.

IMPORTANT — Extended Display Requires Two HDMI Outputs from Each Computer

To use dual extended displays, each computer must provide two HDMI video outputs.

The UKM-201-2C has two HDMI output ports for the displays, but each connected computer must also send two separate HDMI video signals into the KVM.

If your laptop or PC only has one HDMI output, the KVM cannot create an extended dual-display setup by itself. If you only connect a single HDMI cable from the computer or laptop, only one of the HDMI outputs will work.

For laptops with one HDMI port or no HDMI ports, use an OREI SplitXtend adapter to create two HDMI outputs. Suggested models include USBC2HDMI2, SX-2C4K, SX-2C4K-85, SX-2C4K-D100W, and SX-3C4K-D150W.

IMPORTANT — macOS Extended Display Limitation

The manual notes that extended display mode requires two HDMI outputs and MST support.

Most MacBooks support SST only, so extended displays will not work on Macs through this device.

This means Mac users may be able to get one extended display, and the other display will be a duplicate of the extended display. This is commonly referred to as ‘ABB’ configuration where ‘A’ refers to the laptop screen and ‘BB’ refers to the two external displays that are duplicate of each other but independent from the ‘A’ screen.

IMPORTANT — Each Computer Needs HDMI and USB Connected

For full KVM function, each computer needs both video and USB connections.

Each computer should connect with:

HDMI A
HDMI B
USB-C connection for keyboard, mouse, and USB peripheral sharing

If HDMI is connected but USB-C is not connected, you may get video, but the keyboard, mouse, and shared USB devices will not work with that computer.

IMPORTANT — USB-C Ports Are for USB Data / Control, Not USB-C Video Input

The UKM-201-2C is an HDMI KVM switch.

Computer video connections are done through HDMI. The USB-C ports are used for USB data, KVM control, device sharing, and power.

Do not connect a USB-C laptop expecting video over USB-C directly into this KVM. The video signal must be provided through HDMI.

IMPORTANT — 8K and High Refresh Rates Require Compatible Equipment

To use 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, 2K@120Hz, or 1080p@240Hz, every part of the setup must support the selected resolution and refresh rate.

It’s recommended to use Ultra High-Speed Certified HDMI 2.1 cables under 15 feet.

The UKM-201-2C requires minimum 5V/2A power through the USB-C power input.

The power adapter is not included in the package.

Connect a USB-C power cable using a USB power adapter or a USB port on the display or media source that can provide enough power.

Step-by-Step Setup

Connect HDMI OUT A and HDMI OUT B on the UKM-201-2C to your two HDMI displays.
Connect Computer 1 HDMI Output A to PC1 HDMI A on the KVM.
Connect Computer 1 HDMI Output B to PC1 HDMI B on the KVM.
Connect Computer 1 USB-C port to the PC1 USB-C port on the KVM for keyboard, mouse, and USB peripheral control. If your computer does not have a USB-C port, you can also use a USB-A to USB-C converter cable.
Connect Computer 2 HDMI Output A to PC2 HDMI A on the KVM.

Connect the included wired remote to the Control port for easy switching.
Connect USB-C power to the DC 5V port. The device requires minimum 5V/2A power.
Power on both computers and both displays.
Press the SELECT button on top of the unit or the button on the wired remote to switch between Computer 1 and Computer 2.

If you do not see extended displays at first, even with two HDMI connections coming from your computer, check the computer’s display settings. A lot of the times, the displays are set to duplicate by default.

Understanding Dual Display / Extend Mode

The UKM-201-2C supports dual HDMI outputs for two displays.

For extended display mode, the computer must have two independent HDMI outputs. This allows different content to appear on each display.

The KVM does not generate a second extended display from one HDMI signal. It only switches the HDMI signals provided by the connected computer.

If your computer only has one HDMI output, use an OREI SplitXtend adapter or a computer/docking setup that provides two HDMI outputs.

Understanding USB 3.0 Sharing

The UKM-201-2C includes:
