Introduction
Yes, OREI HDMI splitters and matrix switchers can work with fiber optic HDMI cables. In most setups, fiber optic HDMI cables function like standard HDMI cables and can carry high-bandwidth video and audio signals over longer distances. However, compatibility depends on the cable specifications and the HDMI resolution, refresh rate, and features you are using.
Compatibility considerations
To ensure proper performance, confirm that your fiber optic HDMI cables support the video and audio formats required by your setup. This includes the correct HDMI version, supported resolution, refresh rate, HDR format, and any advanced features such as ARC, eARC, or HDMI 2.1 functions if applicable.
If the cable does not support the required signal format, you may experience no signal, intermittent video, audio dropouts, or other compatibility issues.
What to check before connecting
- The maximum resolution and refresh rate supported by the fiber optic HDMI cable
- The HDMI input and output capabilities of the connected devices
- Whether the cable supports the audio formats you need
- Any special features required for your setup, such as HDR, ARC, eARC, or 4K/8K support
Pro Tip: Use an Extender Instead
While fiber optic HDMI cables do work with most OREI products, it's best to use an HDMI Extender over CAT6, Fiber Optic or Coax for longer distances. Regular HDMI cables work best up to 30 feet, and fiber optic HDMI may overcome that distance in general, but for long term reliability we suggest using an HDMI Extender instead.
If you experience issues
If your OREI Splitter, Switch or Matrix Switch is not working as expected with a fiber optic HDMI cable, contact OREI Technical Support for assistance. Please provide the cable specifications and details about the connected devices so the support team can help identify the cause of the issue.
