What Is the HD-102?

The OREI HD-102 is a 1x2 HDMI 1.4 splitter. It distributes one HDMI source to two HDMI displays simultaneously, showing the same video and audio on both screens.

The HD-102 supports resolutions up to 4K@30Hz, 1080p@120Hz, and 1080p 3D@60Hz. It also supports HDCP 1.4, deep color, multichannel HDMI audio, and Copy or Auto EDID modes.

The splitter is useful for TVs, monitors, projectors, conference rooms, classrooms, retail displays, data centers, showrooms, home entertainment systems, and other installations requiring the same HDMI source on two displays.

The HD-102 mirrors one HDMI source. It cannot create two independent computer displays or route different sources to each output.

The source, HDMI cables, and displays must support the selected resolution and refresh rate.

 

IMPORTANT — Both Displays Show the Same Content

The HD-102 sends the same HDMI input signal to both HDMI outputs.

When connected to a computer, both displays receive the same duplicated image. The splitter does not create an extended desktop.

Both HDMI outputs are intended for display devices. Use a dedicated HDMI audio extractor if separate audio output is required.

 

IMPORTANT — EDID Copy and Auto Modes

The front-panel EDID switch provides two operating modes.

EDID tells the HDMI source which video and audio formats the connected equipment supports.

 

Understanding COPY EDID Mode

COPY mode uses the EDID from the display connected to HDMI Output 1.

Use COPY mode when:

  1. Output 1 is connected to the primary display
  2. The source should follow the capabilities of Display 1
  3. Both displays support the same video and audio formats
  4. A fixed reference display is preferred 
     
    If Display 2 has lower capabilities than Display 1, Display 2 may not show video or play audio correctly.

 

Understanding AUTO EDID Mode

AUTO mode compares the EDID information from the displays connected to Outputs 1 and 2.

Use AUTO mode when:

  1. Two different display models are connected
  2. The displays have different capabilities
  3. One display does not show video in COPY mode
  4. A compatible shared format is needed 
     
    If compatibility problems continue, reduce the source resolution or audio format to one supported by both displays.

 

IMPORTANT — Downscaling Is Not Listed

The manual does not list 4K-to-1080p downscaling.

If the source outputs 4K@30Hz, both displays should support that signal. When using one 4K display and one 1080p display, set the source to a resolution supported by both displays, such as 1080p.

 

Deep Color Support

The HD-102 supports the following deep-color formats:

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Turn off the HDMI source and displays.
  2. Connect the HDMI source to the HD-102 HDMI INPUT.
  3. Connect the primary display to HDMI OUTPUT 1.
  4. Connect the second display to HDMI OUTPUT 2.
  5. Select COPY or AUTO EDID mode.
  6. Connect the supplied USB-to-DC power cable to the HD-102.
  7. Connect the USB end to a suitable 5V/1A USB power source.
  8. Turn on the displays and HDMI source.
  9. Confirm that the red Input LED illuminates.
  10. Confirm that the Output 1 and Output 2 LEDs illuminate for the connected displays.

HDMI Cable Guidance

Use high-quality HDMI cables compatible with the selected resolution and refresh rate.

Poor or excessively long HDMI cables may cause:

Correct Use

One HDMI source connects to the HDMI input, and two displays connect to HDMI Outputs 1 and 2. Both displays show the same content at up to 4K@30Hz.

Unsupported Uses

The diagrams state that the HD-102:

  2. Does not support PC extended-monitor mode
