What Is the BK-EXB330UIR-K?
The OREI BK-EXB330UIR-K is an 8K@60Hz HDBaseT HDMI 2.1 extender with KVM, bi-directional IR, and RS-232 control. It lets you place your HDMI source in one location and your display in another, while sending video, audio, USB, and control signals over a single CAT5e, CAT6, or CAT7 cable up to 100m/328ft.
This is an HDBaseT extender, not an HDMI over IP device. It must have a direct connection between the transmitter and receiver, and it should never be connected through a network switch.

IMPORTANT — PoC (Power over Cable) Is Supported
The BK-EXB330UIR-K supports PoC, also called Power over Cable. This means either the Transmitter or the Receiver unit needs to be connected to external power. The other unit receives power over the HDBaseT connection. That is why only a single power supply is included in the package.
IMPORTANT — Bi-Directional IR Control Is Supported
The BK-EXB330UIR-K supports two-way IR pass-through.
| IR Direction | Use Case |
| Source side to display side | Control the display from the source location |
| Display side to source side | Control the source device from the display location |
Connect the IR Blaster cable to the IR OUT port and the IR Receiver cable to the IR IN port on either unit.
CEC Pass-Through Is Supported
The BK-EXB330UIR-K supports CEC pass-through.
Step-by-Step Setup
The transmitter connects to your HDMI source and converts the signal to HDBaseT format. It then sends video, audio, USB, and control signals to the receiver over a single CAT cable. The receiver outputs the HDMI signal to your display and provides USB ports, audio extraction, and control connections at the remote location.
- Connect your HDMI source such as Blu-ray player, DVD player, streaming device, game console, PC, laptop, etc. to the Transmitter's HDMI IN port.
- Connect your computer to the USB-B HOST port with the included USB-A to USB-B cable if you want USB KVM control.
- Run one CAT6, or CAT7 cable directly from Transmitter's HDBaseT OUT to Receiver's HDBaseT IN. Do not connect through a network switch.
- Connect the Receiver's HDMI OUT port to your TV, monitor, or projector.
- Connect your keyboard and mouse to the Receiver's USB-A ports for remote computer control. Connect other USB 2.0 peripherals such as webcam, microphone, etc. to the remaining ports as needed.
- Connect an external audio device to the 3.5mm AUDIO OUT if you want analog audio output at the display location.
- Connect IR receiver and blaster cables or RS-232 devices if remote control is required.
- Plug the included 24V power adapter into either the Transmitter or Receiver. Bi-directional PoC automatically supplies power to the other unit — only one adapter is needed.
EDID Management
The transmitter includes an EDID DIP switch with two settings. EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) tells the source device what video and audio formats the display supports.
- TV Mode: The transmitter reads the EDID from the display connected to the receiver and passes it to the source. This helps the source match the display's actual capabilities.
- STD Mode: The transmitter uses a fixed EDID of 4K@60Hz, 4:4:4, SDR, 2-channel audio. This can be useful when the display's EDID causes compatibility issues with the source.
Use Cases
- Home Theater and Entertainment: Keep your source equipment in a cabinet or equipment room while sending 8K@60Hz video, HDR, and advanced audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to a TV or projector over a single CAT cable.
- High-Refresh-Rate Gaming: Place a gaming PC away from the display and enjoy 4K@144Hz with support for VRR, ALLM, QMS, QFT, and SBTM on compatible systems. Connect a keyboard and mouse at the receiver location to control the PC remotely.
- Conference Rooms and Video Conferencing: Install the computer in a secure location and connect a keyboard, mouse, USB camera, and other USB 2.0 peripherals at the meeting table through the receiver. A single CAT cable carries both the HDMI signal and USB 2.0 connections.
- Modern Educational Setups: Install the computer or laptop in a secure location and connect a keyboard, mouse, USB camera and a touchscreen interactive display to empower modern classrooms.
- Control Rooms and Monitoring Stations: Extend a workstation to a remote display and USB peripherals using USB KVM for keyboard and mouse control, with RS-232 for compatible control system integration.
- Digital Signage and Commercial Displays: Install a media player in a secure or central location and send the HDMI signal to a remote display up to 100m/328ft away. Use IR or RS-232 to control compatible equipment from the display location.
- Broadcasting and Production Environments: Send HDMI video to a remote monitoring display while connecting USB peripherals and control equipment at the receiver location. Note: this product does not add SDI, NDI, video recording, capture, or network streaming capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How far can the BK-EXB330UIR-K extend a signal?
Up to 100m/328ft over a single CAT6, or CAT7 cable. For the best stability at 8K@60Hz and 4K@144Hz, OREI recommends using CAT6A or CAT7 cable.
2. Does it support 8K resolution?
Yes. It supports up to 8K@60Hz (4:2:0, 12-bit) and 4K@144Hz (4:4:4).
3. What USB devices can I connect to the receiver?
The four USB-A ports on the receiver are USB 2.0. They support devices such as keyboards, mice, USB cameras, USB flash drives, and touch panels that operate over USB 2.0.
4. Can I connect the TX and RX through a network switch?
No. The BK-EXB330UIR-K is an HDBaseT extender, not an HDMI over IP system. The TX and RX must be connected directly using a single compatible CAT cable.
5. Do I need two power adapters?
No. The included 24V/1A adapter powers both units through bi-directional PoC. Connect it to either the TX or RX — only one adapter is required. Note that PoC is not the same as standard Power over Ethernet (PoE).
6. What is the difference between TV mode and STD mode on the EDID DIP switch?
TV mode reads the EDID from the display connected to the receiver and passes it to the source, so the source can match the display's capabilities. STD mode uses a fixed EDID of 4K@60Hz, 4:4:4, SDR, 2-channel audio, which can help when the display's EDID causes compatibility issues.
7. What is the SERVICE USB-C port used for?
The SERVICE USB-C port on both units is for firmware updates only. It is not a general-purpose USB data port and does not support USB peripherals or video input.
8. What audio formats does the BK-EXB330UIR-K support?
Audio formats supported through HDMI include LPCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-EX, DTS-96/24, DTS High Resolution, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS:X.
9. Does the receiver's 3.5mm AUDIO OUT support all HDMI audio formats?
The 3.5mm AUDIO OUT on the receiver provides analog audio extraction only. It only supports Stereo audio.
10. Does it support VRR, ALLM, QFT, and other HDMI 2.1 features?
Yes, HDMI 2.1 features such as VRR, ALLM, QFT, etc. are supported.
