What Is the HDS-31VW?
The OREI HDS-31VW is a 4K 1-in-9-out HDMI video wall controller that connects a single HDMI source to up to 9 displays simultaneously. It accepts input at up to 4K@30Hz and outputs to all connected displays at up to 1080p@60Hz. HDR is supported on the input.
The device supports 13 video wall layout modes, with the primary configuration being a 3x3 arrangement across all 9 screens. Additional layouts include 2x4, 2x3, 4x2, 3x2, 2x2, 1x2, 2x1, 1x3, 3x1, 1x4, 4x1, and a 1x1 splitter mode where all 9 outputs show the full image. Built-in 180-degree image rotation per output and edge masking (bezel compensation) are included for seamless display alignment.
Audio is extracted through an optical (Toslink) output and a 3.5mm stereo analog output. A power-off memory function retains the last used settings when the device is powered back on. It can be controlled via the front panel buttons, the included IR remote, or RS-232 through the Micro USB port.
IMPORTANT — HDS-31VW Output Resolution Is Limited to 1080p
The HDS-31VW accepts input at up to 4K@30Hz but outputs to all connected displays at a maximum of 1080p@60Hz. It does not pass 4K video to the outputs. If your displays require a 4K output signal, this device is not the right fit. For 4K output, consider the UHD-29VW instead.
IMPORTANT — HDS-31VW Has HDMI Input Only
The HDS-31VW has a single HDMI input. It does not include a USB-C input port. Your source device must have an HDMI output to connect to this unit.

Step-by-Step Setup
- Connect your HDMI source device (such as a streaming box, Blu-ray player, gaming console, or PC) to the HDMI INPUT port on the rear panel.
- Connect up to 9 displays to the OUTPUT 1 through OUTPUT 9 ports on the rear panel using HDMI cables.
- Connect the included DC 12V power adapter to the DC/12V port and plug it into a power outlet. Press the ON/OFF switch to power on the device.
- Turn on all connected displays and the source device.
- Press the MODE button on the front panel (or select the mode on the remote) to choose the video wall layout that matches your screen arrangement. For a 3x3 wall, select Mode 1. For other configurations, cycle through the available modes.
- If needed, press the Edge Masking + or - button on the front panel or remote to adjust bezel compensation. Each press shifts the image edge by 8 pixels.
- To rotate the image on any individual display for portrait-mounted panels, press the corresponding output number button (OUT 1 through OUT 9) on the remote to toggle 180-degree rotation on that output. Rotation is available in all modes except 1x1 splitter mode.
- If using audio extraction, connect an optical cable to the TOSLINK port for 5.1CH audio, or a 3.5mm cable to the STEREO port for 2.1CH stereo audio. Use the 2.1/5.1CH button to switch between audio modes as needed.
Note on Audio Outputs
The TOSLINK optical port supports 5.1CH audio (Dolby Digital / DTS). The STEREO 3.5mm port supports 2.1CH stereo only. If you are not getting audio from one of these ports, make sure the audio format from your source device matches what the port supports. Set the source to Dolby Digital or DTS for the optical output, or to Stereo/PCM for the 3.5mm output.
What Source Devices Is the HDS-31VW Compatible With?
The HDS-31VW works with any device that outputs a standard HDMI signal at up to 4K@30Hz. Compatible source devices include:
- Streaming devices such as the Roku Ultra, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, and Apple TV 4K
- Gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
- Blu-ray and DVD players
- Laptops and desktop PCs with HDMI output
- Cable and satellite set-top boxes
- Digital signage media players
Note: The HDS-31VW has a single HDMI input only. USB-C source devices must use a USB-C to HDMI adapter or cable to connect.
What Displays Is the HDS-31VW Compatible With?
The HDS-31VW is compatible with any display, monitor, or TV that accepts an HDMI input. Since the output resolution is capped at 1080p@60Hz, the device works best with 1080p displays. It can also be used with 4K displays, but those displays will receive a 1080p signal from the unit.
For best results in a video wall setup, all connected displays should be the same make, model, and size to ensure consistent image alignment, color accuracy, and bezel gap compensation across the wall.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the HDS-31VW output 4K video to the connected displays?
A: No. The HDS-31VW accepts input at up to 4K@30Hz but outputs to connected displays at a maximum of 1080p@60Hz. If you need 4K output on your displays, consider the UHD-29VW instead.
Q: Does the HDS-31VW have a USB-C input?
A: No. The HDS-31VW has a single HDMI input only. If your source device has USB-C output, you will need a USB-C to HDMI adapter or cable to connect it.
Q: How many displays can I connect?
A: The HDS-31VW has 9 HDMI outputs (OUTPUT 1 through OUTPUT 9), so it supports a maximum of 9 displays simultaneously.
Q: What video wall layouts are supported?
A: The HDS-31VW supports 13 modes: 3x3, 2x4, 2x3, 4x2, 3x2, 2x2, 1x2, 2x1, 1x3, 3x1, 1x4, 4x1, and 1x1 (splitter mode where all 9 outputs show the full image). Modes can be selected via the front panel MODE button, the remote, or RS-232 commands.
Q: Does the HDS-31VW remember my settings after a power cycle?
A: Yes. The HDS-31VW includes a power-off memory function that retains the last used mode, bezel compensation, and audio settings when the device is powered back on.
Q: Can I rotate individual displays independently?
A: Yes. Each of the 9 outputs supports independent 180-degree rotation. Press the corresponding output button (OUT 1 through OUT 9) on the remote to toggle rotation on that display. This feature is available in all modes except 1x1 splitter mode.
Q: I am not getting audio from the optical or 3.5mm port. What should I check?
A: The optical TOSLINK port supports 5.1CH audio (Dolby Digital or DTS), and the 3.5mm STEREO port supports 2.1CH stereo only. Make sure the audio format being sent from your source device matches the port you are using. Set the source to Dolby Digital or DTS for the optical output, or to Stereo/PCM for the 3.5mm output.
Q: There is no video output on my displays. What should I try?
A: First, try replacing the HDMI cables on the affected outputs. Then try lowering the output resolution by setting your source device to a lower resolution such as 1080p or 720p. Check that the ON/OFF switch on the rear panel is in the on position and that the power adapter is firmly connected.
Q: Can the HDS-31VW be controlled by a third-party control system?
A: Yes. The Micro USB port on the rear panel functions as an RS-232 serial control port at a default baud rate of 57,600 bps. It is also used for firmware updates and is compatible with Windows 8.1, 10, and 11, and Mac OS 10.10 or above.
