Introduction
This guide helps you troubleshoot the most common issues reported with the OREI BK-4927 8K 4-Port HDMI Switch with HDMI Audio, 3.5 mm, and Optical outputs. If you are experiencing audio, video, switching, power, or compatibility problems, use the steps below to identify the cause and restore normal operation.
Issue description
The BK-4927 is designed to route HDMI video and extract audio through HDMI, 3.5 mm, and optical outputs. Most issues are caused by EDID settings, HDMI handshake problems, cable or power issues, or device compatibility settings such as eARC, ARC, and CEC.
Signs
- No sound from HDMI Audio Only (OUT 2), optical, or 3.5 mm output
- eARC light is blinking or never establishes a connection
- No video, black screen, or signal not detected
- The switch does not auto-switch to the active input
- The unit will not power on or all LEDs go dark
- The picture or audio cuts in and out after power cycling
Basic troubleshooting steps
- Use certified HDMI 2.1 cables and keep cable lengths as short as possible. Preferably under 15 feet.
- Power off the TV, the switch, and the source device, then power them back on in this order: TV, switch, source device.
- Test with one source device connected directly to the switch and display connected to OUT 1.
- Disable CEC, HDMI Device Link, or similar control features on the source device and TV if you are seeing handshake or auto-switching issues.
- Check the TV or source device audio settings and confirm the correct output mode is selected.
Advanced troubleshooting steps
1. No audio output or audio not working
If you do not hear sound from HDMI Audio Only (OUT 2), the optical port, or the 3.5 mm output, the issue is usually related to EDID, audio format, or the connected TV or receiver settings.
- Set the AUDIO switch to PASS if you want the switch to copy the audio EDID from OUT 1 i.e your TV or Projector.
- If PASS does not work, try a manual EDID mode that matches your audio system, such as 2.0, 5.1, or 7.1.
- Confirm the TV or audio device supports the format being sent. The optical output supports up to Dolby Digital 5.1, the 3.5mm output supports only Stereo and the HDMI Audio Only (OUT 2) supports up to Dolby Atmos.
- If you are using a game console or streaming device, test with a simpler audio format such as stereo or Dolby Digital instead of Dolby Atmos to see if the audio works.
- If using a non-ARC/eARC TV, make sure the eARC LED on the BK-4927 is turned off. This way, the audio is extracted from the media source.
IMPORTANT: The BK-4927 is not designed for ARC/eARC Soundbars such as Sonos ARC, Sonos Beam, Bose, etc. These soundbars only accept HDMI ARC/eARC input and will not work with the HDMI Audio Only (OUT 2) on the BK-4927. For ARC/eARC soundbars use the BK-4929 instead.
2. eARC LED blinking or eARC not establishing
A blinking eARC indicator usually means the TV and switch are not completing the eARC handshake.
- Make sure the TV is connected to the correct HDMI port that supports eARC or ARC.
- Use a certified HDMI 2.1 cable rated for the required bandwidth.
- Power cycle the TV, switch, and audio device, then reconnect the HDMI cable to the eARC port.
IMPORTANT: If your TV or Projector does not support ARC/eARC, press the eARC button on the BK-4927 to turn off the eARC LED. This would stop the BK-4927 from trying to establish an eARC connection with the display and take audio from the media source instead.
3. No video output or signal not detected
If a source such as DirecTV Genie, Dish Joey, or PS5 does not pass video through the switch, the issue is often an HDMI handshake problem.
- Turn off the source device, the switch, and the TV.
- Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cables on both the input and output sides.
- Disable CEC, HDMI Device Link, or similar features on the source device and TV.
- Test the source device directly with the TV to confirm the source is outputting video correctly.
- If possible, test with a different HDMI cable or a different source device to isolate the problem.
- Try a lower resolution from the source device.
- Try disabling features such as HDR, VRR, ALLM to see if the video works correctly.
4. Device not auto-switching inputs
If the switch does not move to the active source automatically, another connected device may be taking priority or sending a wake signal.
Most modern media devices such as Apple TV, FireTV Stick, etc. do not completely turn off. Hence, they keep sending a 5V current through the HDMI connection which makes the BK-4927 believe the media source is still active and it doesn't switch to the next one automatically. The only way to get it to switch properly would be to completely turn off the media device or disconnect it's cable.
5. Unit not powering on or LEDs going dark
If the unit stops powering on or all LEDs go out, the most common cause is an incorrect or unstable power supply.
- Try a different known-good power adapter with the same rating if available.
- Inspect the power cable and connector for looseness or damage.
- Try connecting the power adapter to a different wall outlet.
6. Intermittent connection or cycling on and off
If the signal appears and then drops to a black screen, especially after power cycling the TV and switch together, the source device may need to renegotiate the HDMI handshake.
- Power off the source device completely, not just the TV and switch.
- Wait 30 seconds, then power on the TV, switch, and source device in sequence.
- Replace the HDMI cable between the source and the switch if the issue continues.
- Test the source device directly on the TV to determine whether the issue is caused by the source or the switch.
- Try a lower resolution from the media source or disable advanced features such as HDR, VRR, ALLM to try.
- Try using a different media source and see if you face the same issue.
7. Firmware update requests

8. EDID settings confusion
EDID controls what audio and video formats the source device sees as supported. Choosing the right mode can resolve many audio and compatibility problems.
- Use PASS mode when you want the switch to copy the EDID from OUT 1 i.e your TV or Projector.
- Use a manual EDID mode such as 7.1 when your receiver or soundbar supports multichannel audio and you want to force that format.
- Use 5.1 if the connected audio device supports surround formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1.
- Use 2.0 if the connected audio device supports stereo audio only.
- If audio fails after changing EDID, power cycle the source device so it reads the new setting.
- If the audio still fails, try manually changing the audio format from the media source or the eARC TV settings.
9. Non-eARC TV compatibility
The BK-4927 can work with TVs that have ARC only or no ARC at all. If your TV supports ARC only, you can still extract audio from the TV but it will be limited to Dolby Audio 5.1 and not Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. This is a limitation of ARC technology and not the BK-4927.
If your TV supports neither ARC nor eARC, you can still connect it to the BK-4927's dedicated TV output, just press the eARC button on the front and make sure the eARC LED stays off.
10. Audio format support questions
For best results, confirm that your source device, TV, and audio system all support the format you want to use. Here are some settings for different setup scenarios: -
- If your TV support ARC-only and you have an AVR that supports Dolby Atmos, you can connect your external media source such as Xbox, PS5, Roku, Apple TV, etc. to the Inputs on the BK-4927 and extract Dolby Atmos audio to the AVR directly. For this, make sure the 7.1 LED on the BK-4927 is lit up and the eARC LED is turned off. Set the audio settings on your media source to 'Best Available' or Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby TrueHD.
- If you have an eARC TV and want to extract audio to your AVR that supports Dolby Atmos but does not have ARC/eARC, the BK-4927 can help, while also providing extra inputs for your media sources. To extract audio from your eARC TV, make sure the eARC LED on the BK-4927 is turned on. In the TV's settings make sure eARC is enabled and the right audio format is selected.
- If you have an eARC TV and want to extract audio to your AVR and to a pair of headphones / hearing aids at the same time. To extract audio from your eARC TV, make sure the eARC LED on the BK-4927 is turned on. In the TV's settings make sure eARC is enabled and the right audio format is selected. Since there are two different audio devices being used here, there audio capabilities might be different. Assuming the hearing aids or headphones connect to the Optical port and support Dolby Digital audio, the TV's audio output settings should be set to Dolby Digital. This would allow the audio to go to the AVR through HDMI and the hearing aids or headphones through the optical output. If the headphones or hearing aids connect through the 3.5mm output, make sure the TV's settings are set to Stereo or PCM. In any case, you will not get Dolby Atmos from the AVR and stereo or lower audio format from the headphones or hearing aids using the BK-4927.
