Introduction
This guide helps you troubleshoot common setup and audio issues with the OREI BK-927 8K eARC HDMI Audio Extractor. The BK-927 is designed to take audio from an external media source or a TV's eARC or ARC HDMI port and send it to a legacy AVR or soundbar through a standard HDMI input. It is commonly used with sources such as an Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Apple TV, FireTV Stick, etc.
Issue description
This troubleshooting guide covers situations where the BK-927 does not establish eARC, does not pass audio correctly, does not support expected CEC behavior, or appears to have HDMI handshake or resolution issues. It also explains what to expect when using the BK-927 in an audio-only extraction setup.
Signs
- The eARC LED is off, blinking for a long time, or never turns solid green.
- No audio is heard from the AVR or soundbar.
- The AVR on-screen display does not appear.
- Dolby Vision and uncompressed audio do not work at the same time.
- CEC features such as power sync or volume control do not respond.
- Video resolution, 8K, or 4K@120Hz handshake issues.
- Intermittent video dropouts.
- The unit does not appear to work at all.
Basic troubleshooting steps
- Make sure the eARC LED on the front is lit up when using an ARC/eARC TV.
- Enable ARC/eARC in the TV's audio settings if using an ARC/eARC TV.
- When using an ARC/eARC TV, do NOT connect it to the Source IN port.
- Use a certified HDMI 2.1 cable.
- Power cycle the whole setup.
- Connect the BK-927 AUDIO OUT to a standard HDMI input on the AVR or soundbar, not the Soundbar or AVR's ARC/eARC port.
- Confirm the AVR or soundbar is set to the correct HDMI input.
Advanced troubleshooting steps
1. eARC LED not lit or eARC not establishing
The eARC LED on the BK-927 only lights up when an ARC/eARC TV is connected to the OUT TV (ARC) port. If your TV does not support ARC/eARC, you can still connect it to the same port on the BK-927, in this case just press the eARC button on the front and make sure the eARC LED stays off. The eARC LED usually starts to blink when a non-eARC TV is connected to the port and button on the front is pressed. This makes the BK-927 constantly try and find the eARC connection which results in blinking and abnormal behavior.
2. No audio output to AVR or soundbar
If the AVR or soundbar is not receiving audio, confirm the BK-927's AUDIO OUT is connected to a standard HDMI input on the AVR — not the AVR's ARC port.
- Confirm the eARC LED is solid green if the eARC TV is the source of the audio. Otherwise it should stay off if you want audio from the media source.
- Connect the BK-927 AUDIO OUT to a standard HDMI input on the AVR or Soundbar, not the ARC/eARC port.
- Set the audio format from the media source or the eARC TV to a compatible format. Try Stereo setting just to test.
- Confirm the AVR is set to the correct HDMI input that the BK-927 is connected to.
- Try using a different media source.
3. AVR on-screen display (OSD) not showing
The BK-927's AUDIO OUT carries audio only, plus a 720p dummy video signal. Because the AVR is not in the video path in a BK-927 setup, its on-screen display cannot appear on the TV through this connection.
- This is expected behavior — the BK-927 is an audio extraction device, not a video switcher.
- To see the AVR OSD, the AVR must be connected directly in-line between the source and the TV.
- In a BK-927 setup, the AVR receives audio only and is not part of the video path.
IMPORTANT: The AVR OSD cannot be displayed through the BK-927's AUDIO OUT connection. To use the AVR OSD, the AVR must be placed in the video path between the source and the TV.
4. CEC not working
If CEC features such as power sync or volume control are not responding, CEC must be enabled on every device in the chain. Different TV brands use different names for CEC.
- Enable CEC on the TV, source device, and AVR or soundbar.
- Samsung uses Anynet+.
- LG uses SimpLink.
- Sony uses Bravia Sync.
- Power cycle all connected devices after enabling CEC.
5. Intermittent video dropouts or other video issues
Video dropouts or other video-related issues usually happen due to mismatched settings, faulty cables, or connection errors.
- Reseat all HDMI cables on the source, extractor, display, and soundbar/AVR.
- Update the firmware to the latest available version after confirming the correct file and process with OREI support.
- Try a different HDMI port on the display.
- Use certified Ultra High Speed Certified HDMI 2.1 cables.
- Try changing the HDMI cables.
- Verify if direct connection between media source and TV or Projector works fine.
- Try a lower resolution from the media source.
- Try disabling HDR, VRR or ALLM from the media source to see if the video works fine.
- Try using a different media source.
6. Unit not working at all
If there is no video and no audio, and the system appears to be powered but nothing passes through, the issue may be a temporary handshake failure or a problem with another device in the chain.
- Unplug the BK-927, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect it.
- Test the source device directly to the display to isolate whether the issue is with the extractor or another device.
- Try changing the HDMI cables.
- Connect the power adapter to a different wall outlet.
- Check if the LEDs on the front of the unit are lighting up as expected.
